Experience Action Sports in Memphis

By Wilbur Mercer

People that love being active and trying new things, Memphis is a good spot to live or visit. There are tons of Memphis action sports, from skydiving to skate parks and more. Sports enthusiasts can find gear, resorts and a number of extreme sports ready for thrill hunters, all without needing to travel outside the limits of the city.

Skydiving in Memphis

One such journey sport found in Memphis is skydiving. Those who are looking at skydiving in Memphis have 1 or 2 different options from tandem jumps (minimum instruction and then harnessed to an instructor for the jump) to the better experienced or an accelerated free fall course (training to become a certified sky driver with little instructor help during jumps). Prices are around $225 for a tandem jump (without video package) and then for training courses the price is around $200 a jump. Skydiving in Memphis is a great activity that will take roughly 4 hours from starting point to end point with instruction, getting the gear on and then going up in the aeroplane for the jumping portion.

BMX Trails in Memphis

BMX biking has picked up in popularity over the last couple of years and as a consequence Memphis has a few different BMX trails to test out and take part in the rigorous action sport. Once they have a BMX bike, they can head over to BMX trails like the Stanky Creek Mountain Bike Trail. This trail has a three loops that can all be ridden for an 8 mile total trail experience. Stanky Creek Mountain Bike Trail has jump spots, hills, tight spots and fast spots.

Skate Parks in Memphis

Boarding is what many people think of when talking about adventure sports and Memphis has a few skate parks already built with plans for more on the way. One of the skate parks in Memphis is at the Greenlaw Community Center. This community center teaches children the best way to skateboard and recently won a grant to build more skate ramps and a half pipe at the center for people to use to practice their skateboarding journeys. At least three more skate parks in Memphis are planned and in the process of being built.

Motocross/Supercross in Memphis

Motocross and Supercross type events are another one of the action sports in Memphis. There's a club called the Memphis Motorcycle Club that puts on street and trail rides, camping trips, trail events, and charity events for those who wants to get more involved with this particular part of action in Memphis. The Memphis Motorbike includes mud riders, street riders, professional and amateur racers.
