Stay Warmer During Outdoor Sports Activity Using Embrocation Cream

By Cyndi Rutherford

You need not be a professional bicyclist to enjoy the benefits of embrocation cream. While made popular by riding enthusiasts, this skin emollient is also enjoyed by other athletes, including runners. It is formulated to help keep exposed skin feeling warmer on days when the temperature outside may be too cold for real comfort.

This is possible due to the specially formulated organic ingredients that become active when applied. Not only do they help loosen tight leg joints and muscles, but may also be used effectively on the shoulders and lower back, where the sensation of deep, penetrating heat also helps dispel sports-related aches and pains.

Most commercial brands employ only naturally occurring ingredients, not harsh, manufactured chemical compounds. Even so, these substances are powerful enough to advise taking serious caution during the application process. The active ingredients should never contact sensitive areas or mucous membranes, especially on the face.

The product is formulated in part from black pepper and its heat-producing main ingredient, piperine. Shea butter made from the extracts of tree bark makes the substance easy to apply. But the main heat producer is Capsicum oleoresin, also found in the irritating and inflammatory pepper sprays used by police to subdue people.

While not actually dangerous, most cyclists recommend applying this to the legs only after the bike shorts have been put on. Applying the salve ahead of time risks accidentally spreading it to the groin area, where even small amounts can become exceedingly unpleasant. Once applied, some users recommend a mild dish-washing liquid for quick removal.

Embrocation cream is manufactured both in Europe and the United States, and there are some differences in brands. Ask friends which one they use and like, and find the product that works best personally. Riding in cold, windy weather is rarely pleasant, and a soothing, comfortable sensation of warmth is always welcome.
