How to Find the Right Childcare Facility
By Neal Zalenski
Trusting someone else to take care of your child is one of the most difficult things that you will ever have to do.This is the same child that you delivered into the world after enduring nine months of being pregnant. This is the same child that you take care of on a daily basis, whether he is sick or in good health.Obviously, you don't see a problem with your mother or mother-in-law looking after him while you are away. But, there is a difference in letting his grandmothers take care of him and putting him in a daycare. So, what are you going to do to get the right childcare for your son?
Begin by looking at the daycares in your immediate area.Get as much information as you can about them.It is important that you actually go to a few daycare facilities once you narrow down your list a bit.But in the very beginning, you can do most of the important work via the internet.Check out the state agencies that are known for certifying childcare centers and providing various licenses.See if your favorites have been given positive ratings.
If the ones that you like have received negative ratings, then remove them from your final list. Were you aware that you can go to certain websites and get info such as when certain childcare centers were last inspected? You can also see the violations that were received.Basically, you can research plenty of daycare centers online and not leave your home.
When you have a few centers on your list, then you can make personal visits to them.Although it is always better not to go to a business or residence unannounced, you can change the rules a bit in this case.Just do a walk-in inspection of each facility that you like. This way you will get a better feel for what is actually happening.Don't give them a chance to tidy things up before you arrive.
This will give you a chance to check out some of the following things. Is the daycare clean?Ensure that the center is not doing anything that could possibly harm your child.Inquire about the education of the staff and the credentials of the workers. A credible daycare center will always do background checks on everyone on staff.Ask about each teacher and whether or not she has taken the appropriate child care courses.
Quite naturally, you would prefer to find a center where all of the teachers on staff have a certificate 3 in childcare, but you might not find this at all centers.Sadly enough, a majority of these centers only babysit children and do not teach them anything new. They do not provide a lot of learning activities. However, there are other childcare facilities that are actual learning centers that are certified to teach. You might have to pay more to enroll your child at a learning center, but they are a good choice.
In conclusion, you need someone to take care of your child while you are away. But, you need one that you can trust. Be certain that this childcare center employs staff that is professional and that the center is both clean and safe.It will seem like a hard thing to do, but the research must be done.
